"John is a 7th-grade student with a reading disability. He is currently reading at a 4th-grade level and struggles with decoding, fluency, and comprehension. He has difficulty with multisyllabic words and often relies on context clues to understand unfamiliar words. John has strengths in listening comprehension and enjoys discussing books and stories with others. He benefits from small-group instruction and additional time for reading assignments. John would benefit from explicit instruction in decoding and vocabulary development to improve his reading skills."
AI wrote the above present level of educational performance. With a simple question, the AI was able to write a PLEP that is at a level of a first-year special education teacher. You’d like to see more specific data, but the format and general information are pretty good. Imagine a more robust AI, that is better trained on academic data, and with more specific details provided about the student in question. It will be even more appropriate.
It used to be thought that knowledge workers were immune to automation replacement. While teachers will not be easily replaced, certain tasks that use to take hours will be able to be done in a matter of minutes. The hope is that this gives more time for students, and the paperwork can be reduced while still being just as accurate and effective. We will see how this improves.
There is undoubtedly a need for caution and a need to review anything written by AI, but editing takes much less time than writing. We will see how this improves, but the future of knowledge work starts now.
